Read How Man United Boss Solskjaer Was Angry With Zidane Over Pogba Transfer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was left ‘irritated’ by Zinedine Zidane and Real Madrid’s public pursuit of Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, according to reports.

French World Cup winner Pogba was widely expected to leave Old Trafford for the second time during the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old admitted he wanted a ‘new challenge’ and made no secret of his desire to join Real Madrid to play under legendary Frenchman Zidane.

Real were keen to secure a deal with Manchester United but had their hands tied after spending heavily on Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Ferland Mendy and Eder Militao.

Solskjaer refused to criticise Pogba after he hinted at leaving Old Trafford but was ‘irritated’ by Zidane’s lack of discretion regarding a possible deal, according to the Evening Standard.

It is also claimed that Pogba knew as far back as June that he would be staying at Manchester United.

Pogba has endured a poor start to the season, with Manchester United winning just one of their first four Premier League matches to sit eighth during the first international break.

Franck Sale, the man who recruited Pogba as a teenager at Le Havre, believes the Frenchman is bound to leave Manchester United but says he could clash with Zidane in Madrid.

‘If Paul has a coach with a strong personality around him, in time there will be a clash somewhere,’ Sale told Optus Sport.

‘When he left for Juventus a few years ago, with Alex Ferguson that was very complicated too. Paul didn’t concede because he has such a strong character.

‘So when he says, “I’m leaving,” he’s leaving. ‘If tomorrow he goes to a big club like a Real Madrid, he’ll still have his conflicts, even with Zizou [Zidane].’
